This domain have been specially designed to stimulate interest among the oral health
professionals that has an interest in the delivery of dental services to the
public in South Africa. We intend to provide relevant
information about the profession of Denturism to all stakeholders concerned,
including dental technicians,
future denturists, academics, all other oral health professional groups and decision makers
within Government.
In the first file,
About Denturism, the importance of providing dentures to the edentulous patient and the essence
of Denturism is illuminated, with some of the most relevant realities why
dentists do not want to give up the monopoly they hold on to the clinical
procedures involved in the provision of dentures. Practice Guidelines is a
proposed work demarcation based on current trends and the established international practice of the profession. Included is a motivation for the proposed
Scope of Practice
that The Society have always advocated and the range of appliances that Denturists
are skillfully trained to provide.
The Society
Campaign provides a history of the efforts to gain clinical rights by dental
technicians and some insight into the development of dentistry and the shifts of
focus during the last century. Also included is a summary of all the arguments
and counter arguments that have been tabled during the stifled debate. The
monopoly holder have thus far been a reluctant participant to this debate
(only by unavoidable
redress). The
recommendations about Legislation and Education are intended to stimulate an
open debate with all stakeholders and concludes with
Policy Recommendations. We have also listed some Latest News highlights of what is
